On September 21, 2024, Florida’s American Legion Riders paid homage to Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action during their POW/MIA Remembrance Ride & Ceremony in Jacksonville.
The ride is held on the third Saturday of September each year, and is also known as the Seven Bridges Ride because it traverses all seven of Jacksonville’s large bridges that cross the St. John’s River.
Denny Luke, American Legion Department of Florida POW-MIA Chairman, said, “We hope that organizing this event will give peace and comfort to the families of those still missing, knowing that we have not forgotten their loved ones.”
Family members are encouraged to submit DNA samples to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Casualty Officer because there are a considerable amount of remains still awaiting identification.
Currently, there are approximately 81,500 members of the U.S. military Missing in Action.
